New Years Day a Paid work Holiday?

Why do we get the day of the first day of a new year off. No really, why? Not that I'm not very happy for a paid day off but when and why did the celebration of a new that acknowledges the passage of time become something to be a paid day off?

Think about it, it really is just the start of 365 days and what about that constitutes the need to stay home and get paid for it? We don't get summer solstice off our winter solstice off and those are the knowledge meant of the new season. So yes the 365, which basically is an arbitrary number we as humans have assigned to mean a full circle, again with the 365° and the start of a new revolution of seasons and yes it matches the same spot in which we were circling the sun as a full circle… But again it was something arbitrarily chosen; it very well could have just started September 23 which is the autumn equinox and every September 23 would be the new 365 days so the date itself is not necessarily special.

I know I know I'm getting quite abstract but you have to admit that I am correct in that LOL.

My point being that it is just the start of a new year it's not a celebration of anything meaningful. Like Thanksgiving, again see previous post on Thanksgiving, is not important really but Christmas again, chosen for various reasons, is actually a celebration of the birth of Christ… And before you say anything, I do know that that is not really when Christ was born. However it is the day chosen to celebrate that birth.

So there is Christmas, Fourth of July (which is a celebration of our independence).....and.....?

New Year's Day has no great meaning behind its celebration so why do we have the day off?

Is it so that everyone has a chance to sober up from the night of celebration LOL because honestly that is the only thing I can see being the rationale behind it hahahaha

Kids in movie theaters

I understand when it is a kid friendly movie that there will be children in the same theater as me. I do not have a problem with that. What I have a problem with is when parents do not parent their children well in said movie theater or to extrapolate, in general.

Take today, Christmas Day at the movies where most people go. Went to see into the woods and the theater was at full capacity. I was "fortunate" enough to sit in front of a child probably around six or seven. This child proceeded to kick and push the back of my chair throughout the movie. After the first 10 minutes I sharply turned around to look at what's going on.The kicking and pushing stop for a time. However it picked back up on and off throughout the movie.

Find me towards the end of the movie when the child was getting restless it came on full force. I finally had to turn around and whisper asking him to please stop.

The child complied. That is all well and good what frustrates me is that at no point did either parent tell him to stop, apologize to me, or try and control him they never talk to him they did not talk to me even when I had to turn around and talk to them for them.

Again I have no problem with children in a family-friendly movie I know they're going to be there but for a parent to not intervene in anyway to try and control the child or apologize for the disruption that he is causing or parent enough to give that child expectations of courteous behavior in public is irresponsible.

Remember, you are an example for your children and this was poor behavior on the parents part.

Oh, and on a sidenote: do not bring a baby to the movie theater. Remember you chose to have that child so you either get a babysitter or you miss out but the excuse of having a child shouldn't disrupt my life is not fair to those of us who pay good money to not be distracted by a child whining crying while trying to watch a movie.

SUCH A pet peeve

Coffee

I've got a bone to pick about coffee. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the smell, I do not drink it for multiple reasons mainly eat religious but let's look at it from the perspective of the drink itself and what it is. Coffee is a being that is loaded with caffeine, a stimulant. People in this world what about 90% of them everyone who isn't LDS and even then some of them do when they shouldn't… However my point is that way too many people in this world rely on a stimulant to help them function through life how sad is that? No really, if you think about all the people who drink coffee who areHealth nuts look at the hypocrisy these people who do essential oils and eat organic and then drink 5 cups of coffee because they need eight sure it's natural they need us give me a link to help them get through life I'm sorry but that seems rather hypocritical to meI guess I'm just irks because I know way too many people who rely on it and to live life reliant on a stimulant to function is just sad. Okay stepping down from the soapbox

5 senses

As I sit here eating this wonderful dip I bought spices for today, which is basically flavored mayo and sour cream lol, I think of how much I love taste.

But...I love all my senses. I love music, I love to watch TV/movies...to read, I love scents (purfumes, bath and body soaps hahaha), I love the feel of a massage and pedicures (touch), and as I already mentioned, the taste of food.

There are people in this world who live without one or more of these senses. It makes me wonder which one I could live without and how blessed I am to have all of them. Having had them all and losing one would be so hard to lose it so I admire those that have and live through it.

I'll be honest, I would be devastating de me to lose all but touch. I live for music and enjoy the stories portrayed through movie and TV, and if you know me at all you know I love to cook. I guess smell would be ok to lose...but oh, I would miss the smell of rain and food cooking and campfire and oceans...

Just the thoughts in my head right now:)

Hygiene at work

PLEASE do not clip your fingernails at work and if you have to, do it because you have a nail that is catching and needs to be fixed and PLEASE do it over the trash can

I had a co-worker once that shared a U desk and sat behind me and I don’t know how she did it but she clipped her nails EVERY DAY (nails don’t grow that fast) I got disgusted because I imagined the clippings flying behind her and into my lunch…..so now every time I hear it, especially at work I cringe and my stomach rolls.

Bath and body works and hand soap!

What you are viewing are the seasonal hand soaps B & B have out out to date. And that's my humble opinion.

The problem IS, that they smell so good, I find myself washing my hands several more times a day than normal. Now, don't get me wrong, I wash my hands at all the normal junctures of the day, when they are dirty, after the restroom etc etc.

But NOW, I find myself every couple of hours going "hum, it's been a few hours, I'm sure my hands are dirt and need to be washed..." So I'm washing my hands several extra times a day, which leaves the hands dry, especially in this winter season, and you don't want to put lotion on because that covers the scent you washed your hands for in the first place so you live with it... And the dry hands smell soooo good!

Ok, so I really and not washing them every couple of hours or making up excuses to wash my hands but I AM washing them more frequently! Hahahahah

The thing is, they are only in hand soap, no lotion! I wrote to B&B and mentioned the whole problem lol, no really I did, and told them they needed these in lotion. A very polite personalized response was made and now we wait, and see if others are as addicted as I am and if they too took action and we get our lotions!

The sad thing is these are new and are seasonal so I'm going to have to stock up this season since if they come back it won't be for a whole year and with the amount of times I am washing my hand now I will soon run out LOL

Damn you Bath and Bodyworks! Thank goodness there are always coupons

Nonsensical facts

I love learning about things. If I had the money I would be up perpetual student but instead I have to be a student of life and learn all the kind of little things that no one really cares about. In fact some of my favorite podcasts are what you missed in history class and how stuff works for the talk about things like how touchscreens work or about the princess that thought she was made of glass was going to break... things like that.

And that all platitude about you learn something new every day is totally true. Here are three things I learned just last week:

One. The horsehair worm is parasite found in house crickets. It gets inside of the cricket eating dead things and then develops inside. The cricket is a land animal the horsehair worm water in it. So when the worm is ready to be released it actually takes over the mind of the cricket forcing it to take a suicide jump into a body of water where the cricket drowns and the worm emerges. Interesting no?

Two. The movie meet me in St. Louis with Judy Garland is one of my favorite classics. The song have yourself a Merry Christmas is iconic. Obviously a classic for the holidays. But did you know that it was written specifically for Judy Garland in the movie meet me in St. Louis which is not a Christmas movie. Also the version we know today was not the original song. The song was written with more depressing lyrics which Judy Garland requested to be more uplifting. The writer apparently refused and for six weeks the song was not the sun because she refused to do it finally he was convinced it would be coming it if she sent it and he wrote it therefore we now have the song have yourself a Merry Christmas.

Three. Did you know that women used to not be allowed to run in the Boston Marathon? Until one brave woman, which always seems to be the case, when ahead and ran it anyway even with the race organizers trying to physically remove her.
